CHARLOTTE ANN ADAMS
First Trip
The Smile Foundation's annual visit is Charlotte Ann Adam's first mission trip! When she is not working as a risk and insurance advisor, Charlotte Ann is raising a family, traveling abroad, or serving her local community.

BEN BARKSDALE
First Trip
Ben Barksdale graduated from John Carroll High School in 2020. Although Ben has no dental experience, he is ready to help restore smiles.

LAURA BARKSDALE
Second Trip
Laura Barksdale is a graduate of the University of Alabama Nurse Anesthesia program and has been working as a CRNA in Birmingham for the last 11 years. She is also a mom of 2 young men (Ben 20 and Adam 15).

LESLIE BARTLETT
First Trip
Leslie Bartlett has worked at Pediatric and Adolescent Dentistry for over 3 years. This is her first trip with The Smile Foundation but has been on 5 medical mission trips in the past. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her 5 children that range in age from 24-4.

MARIA BUENO
Fourth Trip
Maria Bueno is a graduate of the Alabama Dental Hygiene Program. Maria currently works alongside Dr. Johnson at Brocks Gap Dental Group as his Dental Assistant and Hygienist.

DANIEL CASTELLON
First Trip
Daniel Castellon has a degree in Automotive Mechanics, but he practiced in the dental field in his formative years.

PAUL CONDON
First Trip
Paul Condon is a sophomore, studying Biomedical Sciences, at Auburn University. His goal is to one day work as a pediatric dentist! Paul has been working with Pediatric and Adolescent Dentistry since 2020.

Dr. Jana Crim
Third Trip
Dr. Jana Crim is a graduate of UAB School of Optometry Class of 2002. She has been practicing in Franklin, Tennessee, since 2012. Dr. Crim opened Berry Farms EyeCare in March 2017 and has created her ideal private practice setting where she manages and treats the eye care needs of patients of all ages.

Dr. Doug Denson
Fourth Trip
Dr. Doug Denson is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Birmingham, Alabama and is affiliated with Grandview Medical Center-Birmingham. He received his medical degree from University of Alabama School of Medicine.

Dr. Lauren Denson received her Doctor of Dental Medicine from UAB in 2013.

SAMANTHA DUMAS
First Trip
Samantha Dumas is a graduate of the Alabama Dental Hygiene Program and has been practicing hygiene for almost 11 years, specializing in Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Jay Durham
Fourth Trip
Dr. Jay Durham is a native of Fort Payne, Alabama. Dr. Durham received a Dental Merit scholarship to attend the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in Birmingham.

Nikki is a junior at UAB majoring in medical sociology. She has been working at Pediatric and Adolescent Dentistry with Dr. Johnson since her senior year of high school.

Thirteenth Trip
Dr. Lauten Johnson is the The Smile Foundation. Dr. Johnson has served at Pediatric and Adolescent Dentistry since its very beginning in 2010.

Dr. Trevor Kaple
First Trip
Dr. Trevor Kaple earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Indiana University and spent the following year as part of a General Practice Residency at the VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, IN. Immediately following, he was accepted into Endodontic Residency at UAB where he earned a specialty certificate in Postgraduate Endodontics.

Baily Martin is a recent graduate of Georgetown University Law Center. Baily hopes to practice privacy and data security law after her clerkships.

Second Trip
Alex Oczypok is a graduate of The University of Alabama with a degree in mechanical engineering. He currently works for Vulcan Materials Company in Sales and Business Development.

Lacey Scott is a student of the Alabama Dental Hygiene Program and has worked in the dental field since 2010. Lacey currently works alongside Dr. Johnson at Brocks Gap Dental Group.

DAKODA SMITH
Third Trip
Dakoda Smith is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham dental hygiene program, and has been practicing as a Dental Hygienist for 6 years with special interest in Pediatrics. Dakoda currently works alongside Dr. Johnson at Brocks Gap Dental Group as his Clinical Director.

Dr. Kennedy Walker is a 2008 graduate from the UAB School of Optometry. She currently is practicing at Day Eye Care in Gardendale, AL.

Dr. Ashley Williams is an Optometrist at Preferred Eye Care in Selma, Alabama. She received her B.S. from Auburn University and her Doctorate in Optometry from The University of Alabama School of Optometry in Birmingham, Alabama. She has practiced in Selma for over sixteen years.
